A poignant Southern comedy, this award-winning play has been compared to Steel Magnolias because of its story revolving around friendships, and filled with drama, love, loss, and redemption, along with plenty of very funny dialogue. As the play opens in the small town of Ivy Gap, Tennessee, it is the spring of 1945, and the 75h anniversary celebration of the church, near the end of World War II. There, we meet six strong, resourceful characters, who are brought together as Red Cross volunteers, to make bandages in the fellowship hall of the church:
Diane Livengood LUBY, a widowed church-goer, whose son is overseas Crystal Chappell OLENE, a member of the church with big dreams Aisling Chalian MAE ELLEN, the church's irreverent organist Donna Williamson EDITH, the pastor's take-charge wife Tabitha Hanner SAMMY, a young girl with a secret Sue Jones VERA, a prominent church members, also with a secret
In the second act, during the spring of 1970 and the height of Vietnam, the characters are reunited as they celebrate the church's centennial, fill each other in on the last 25 years, solve some mysteries, and attempt to make amends.
